I attended local arts/media event `The Space' @ Komedia Brighton last night --- film-critic, journalist Barry Norman + comedian,writer Frank Skinner were guests :

Acumen Law Media sponsored the event -- their representative Josh spoke for approx 10 mins on `defamation' & `copyright' directly prior to Frank Skinner ---- who somewhat `joshed' about having lawyers as his `warm-up' performer.

My favourite retro-style club-night has been The Kroon Kat Lounge --- a retro lounge-music & cabaret night thats been based at Brighton Komedia venue for several years + also opened at the Komedia venue in Bath approx 2 years ago.
Elegantly-sexy evenings : http://www.kroonkat.com/  -- the promoters & performers have become good-friends of mine over the years.

Theres also regular burlesque nights locally as featured through the `ministry of burlesque' website : http://www.ministryofburlesque.com/burlesque-scenes/
though my heart stays with the KroonKat guys (for its original connections to Komedia venue + for finding the best local cabaret-performers + fabulous music etc).
